The nitrogenous metabolism of the earthworm (Lumbricus terrestric). II. Arginase and urea synthesis.

چکیده
Negligible amounts of urea were excreted by fresh’ earthworms &urnbricus terrestris) ; however, on fasting, the quantity of urea in the excreta increased.notably (1). The oral administration of arginine was followed by an increased elimination of urea. The excretion of urea was also augmented, to a lesser extent, by the ingestion of citrulline with certain other amino acids. The data presented here were obtained in an attempt to clarify the mechanism of urea synthesis in the earthworm by studies in vitro. Arginase has been found to occur in the intestinal tissue of the earthworm and to be present in increased amounts in fasted animals.

متن کاملEvaluation of DNA damage and lipoperoxidation content in red earthworm, Lumbricus rubellus exposed to zinc oxide nanoparticles
Manufactured nanoparticles have a wide range of application due to their advantageous properties whencompared with their bulk forms. There is a growing concern regarding the safety of nanoparticles. This studyaimed to evaluate the cell membrane lipoperoxidation (LPO) and DNA integrity in red earthworm Lumbricusrubellus when exposed to artificial soil systems containing different concentration o...
متن کاملپایداری خاکدانهها در حضور کرم خاکی (Lumbricus terrestris L.) و مواد آلی مختلف در یک خاک آهکی
Although the crucial function of earthworms in improvement of soil physical properties is well -know, but very little is known of the interactive influence of earthworms and organic materials on soil properties such as soil aggregate stability, particularly in arid and semi-arid soils. The low organic matter content and the significant role of earthworms in improving physical properties of arid...
متن کاملPrinted in Brazil URINARY EXCRETION OF UREA, URIC ACID AND AMMONIA IN PYGOSCELLIDAE PENGUINS*
In order to carry out further studies on the nitrogen metabolism in Antarctic birds, a study has been carried out on the levels of nitrogenous excretory products in the urine of 29 Pygoscellidae penguins: Pygoscellis antarctica, n = 2; P. adeliae, n = 16, and P. papua, n = 11. According to the results of the present experiment, it has been found that in spite of the fact that those birds excret...
